National Do Not Call Registry
The National Do Not Call Registry is a list of phone numbers from consumers who have indicated their preference to limit the telemarketing calls they receive. The registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nationıs consumer protection agency. It is enforced by the FTC, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and state officials. The FTC amended the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) to give consumers a choice about whether they want to receive most telemarketing calls. As of Oct. 1, 2003, it became illegal for most telemarketers or sellers to call a number listed on the National Do Not Call Registry.
The National Do Not Call Registry applies to any plan, program or campaign to sell goods or services through interstate phone calls. This includes telemarketers who solicit consumers, often on behalf of third-party sellers. It also includes sellers who provide, offer to provide or arrange to provide goods or services to consumers in exchange for payment. The National Do Not Call Registry does not limit calls by political organizations, charities or telephone surveyors. For more information about the Do Not Call Provisions of the FTCıs Telemarketing Sales Rule, please go to https://telemarketing.donotcall.gov/FAQ/FAQBusiness.aspx.
Access to the national registry is limited to sellers, telemarketers and other service providers who have registered with the FTC for an annual subscription. Telemarketers and sellers are required to search the registry at least once every 31 days and drop from their call lists the phone numbers of consumers who have registered. To subscribe to the national registry, please go to https://telemarketing.donotcall.gov.
As a service to our clients, Experian® accesses the registry once every 14 days and performs the appropriate list processing required to suppress the phone numbers from Experian's INSOURCESM Database. However, due to timing and varying compilation and processing methods, Experian does not guarantee that all do-not-call telephone numbers have been identified or suppressed. It is the marketer's obligation to be aware of and comply with all applicable federal and state laws. In order for Experian to access the registry on behalf of its clients, a Subscription Account Number (SAN) is required for any client who purchases telephone output. The SANs are assigned by the FTC to telemarketing and sellers who have registered for access to the national registry.
